AUS Census Collection District DataPlus
The Census Collection District
(CCD) DataPlus set returns a code for land segments
across Australia.
Data Format
The CCD is a geographical area containing an average
of approximately 200 households. The whole of Australia
is divided into 34,500 CCDs with no gaps or overlaps.
The CCD geographical unit has been created, and is maintained,
as part of the census data collection and reporting
process administered by the Australian Bureau of Statistics
(ABS). Each CCD is coded with the latitude and longitude
of its centroid, or central point. The link to the CCD
is provided via the DPID. DPIDs with a ‘virtual’
address are not generally coded with a CCD level latitude
and longitude.
Data
CCDs remain constant for the life of the census data.
Currently, the Australian market is working with 37209
CCDs. The data has been created based on the geographical
area covered by the CCD. As CCDs average 200 households,
they vary substantially in geographical area. CCDs in
remote rural areas will cover thousands of square kilometres,
whereas CCDs in inner Melbourne and Sydney may be defined
by a single block of streets covering less than a square
kilometer.
Coverage
More than 95% of residential addresses across Australia
are coded to the relevant CCD.
Maintenance
Addresses and streets are currently refreshed by Australia
Post every quarter as part of the Postal Address File
(PAF) update cycle. QAS’ data supplier appends
CCD codes to the new DPIDs in line with this cycle.
