Clicks are a pay as you go licence model for QAS software.
A click is counted as any search that brings back one or more possible address matches. This may be a unique match or a pick-list (up to 100 per click) of possible matches.
A counter ID is the series of number and letters which identify your counter which can be found in the Administrator Console. It changes according to what your licence key is and is a unique number eg. 1MFRZ7X7N6CMXZYFG0ASDF. If you are using an older product you might have an Update Key instead of a CounterID which can be found in the Counter Maintenance Utility. An update code is the series of numbers and letters that are entered into the counter to update the number of clicks on the counter.
A counter might have many meters in it for different situations eg. Development Clicks Meter, Eval Clicks Meter and Live Clicks Meter and different data sets. It is therefore necessary to specify which meter you would like the clicks for eg. WEB.AUS.MATCH
Clicks can be purchased from QAS in bundles of 750, 2500 and 5000 and these are then added to your software and counted down as they are used. In order to purchase clicks you will need to contact your account manager.
When you first install your product your will not have any clicks available for a search so as part of the installation process you are required to set this up. Start by entering in the correct licence key and then locate your Counter ID and meter name (Update Key in older versions) then follow the steps for ‘How do I get more clicks?’
Increasing the number of ‘clicks’ available is done via entering an update code within the Counter Administration facility found within the Configuration Editor/Administrator Console or Counter Maintenance Utility.
Click Counter Administration on the left pane to display the Counter Administration dialog:

This dialog allows you to do the following:
- View the name and value of each meter, and therefore the number of metered clicks remaining on the server;
- View the status of the counter, the Counter ID;
- Enter update codes to add more clicks.
a. Contact your Account Manager to purchase the clicks
b. E-mail clicks@qas.com and include your Account Reference, Counter ID and meter name (or update key) and the number of clicks you have purchased for that meter.
The Counter ID and meter name are found in the administration console (update key found in the Counter Maintenance Utility).
c. QAS will use the information you provide to generate an update code, which they will send to you.
d. Enter the update code in the relevant field on the Counter Administration dialog and click Apply Code.
e. The value of the relevant meter(s) will increase accordingly.
If an error is returned, you should check the following:
- That you have not already applied the update code to the meter(s);
- That the counter ID which you supplied to QAS was for the same server that you are trying to apply the update code to.
