Summary

After searching for an address, the “Accept” button is pressed (see figure 1) and the address is not pasted into the underlying application. This issue may occur after installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. This can also occur after installing recent windows updates.

NB This is only a problem when Rapid is in Keypress simulation mode

Solution

Below are two methods which can be used to resolve this problem by delaying the pasting of the address from Rapid to the underlying application:

Method One – using a Keypress delay (preferred method)

Method Two - using Pre-paste keys

Method One - using a Keypress Delay

1. Load the configuration editor

This can normally be found on the start menu under “Programs > QuickAddress Rapid > configuration”

2. Select the required layout

Select the layout which is causing the problem (this will normally be QADefault as in figure 2 below).

3. Click the button labelled “Pasting options” (see Figure 2)

Figure 2 – Rapid Configuration

4. Click the button labelled “Advanced…”

Figure 3 – Pasting Options

5. Set a pasting delay (Figure 4)

Enter a value in the box labelled key press speed. This slows down the speed at which Rapid outputs the address; setting this to around 20 gives the best results. If this is too slow or the problem still occurs this can be changed to anywhere between 10 and 70.

6. Restart Rapid

If Rapid is already running it will need to be closed first. Rapid can then be restarted. Ensure the correct field in your application is selected then begin a Rapid search. Now when the “Accept” button is pressed the address will be entered into the application in the background. It should be noted that this will be slightly slowed by the delay.

Method Two - using Pre-paste keys

1. Follow steps 1 to 4 from Method One

2. Edit the Pre-Paste keypress sequence

In the box labelled Pre-paste enter one of the following:

For pasting into Excel, Access, Internet Explorer 7: {tab}{shift+tab}

For pasting into Word, Notepad, or Sage: {tab}{backspace}

3. Restart Rapid

If Rapid is already running it will need to be closed first. Rapid can then be restarted. Ensure the correct field in your application is selected then begin a Rapid search. Now when the “Accept” button is pressed the address will be outputted into the application in the background. If there is now a gap at the beginning of the address you should replace {tab}{shift+tab} with {tab}{backspace}
