Summary

The address data QAS Rapid uses to return address information is stored in a data file called QASTRT.ALL. You should receive quarterly updates via CD in order to keep the data in this file current.

The invalid data directory error appears (Figure 1) if the data directory specified does not exist or does not contain the Rapid data file QASTRT.ALL.

Solution

There are two ways to check and change the data directory settings:

1. Using the configuration editor

You can find the Configuration Editor in the QAS Rapid area of your Start menu.

Figure 2 - Configuration

Click on the Miscellaneous button in the Configuration Dialogue (Figure 2).

Figure 3 – Miscellaneous Settings

You need to set the data directory field (Figure 3) to the full path of where the Rapid data file QASTRT.ALL is located. To find the location of the data file use the windows search function. Press the OK button and on the Configuration dialogue press the Save button.

Close Rapid (if it is running), then open the Rapid application again and try out a search.

2. Using the .ini file

The file qarapid.ini is where the Rapid program settings are stored. You can locate it in the installation folder (C:\Qaddress\Rapid.315 by default). Open it in notepad and locate the line:

DataDir=C:\qaddress\pafdata

You should make sure this key is set to the path where your Rapid data file is located. Save any changes, close Rapid if it is still running, open the Rapid application and try out a search.
