Summary

Royal Mail originally defined the postal county names from the administrative counties of 1974. Because of the county changes since then, and to prevent confusion, postal county names are no longer required by the Royal Mail in order to deliver an item. Experian QAS products however continue to return counties for several reasons including end customer perception. These counties fall into two categories: ‘County’ – the original postally required counties and ‘PNR County’ postally non-required counties, for example: ‘Warwickshire’ for Warwick addresses.

For further flexibility, Rapid can be configured to display either; no county name, the ‘postally required’ county only or always display a county name (i.e. either county or PNR county depending on the address).

Note. By default, Rapid layouts begin with the ‘postally required’ county only.

Solution

1. How to display ALL county names:

Click on the Configuration icon in the QAS Rapid program group to run the Configuration Editor. This can be found in Start > (All) Programs > QAS Rapid.

Click on “Address Format” to check the current layout. If the county name is not included in the current layout (as shown on the example below), you need to add a new line in the layout by clicking on “Insert”. Then double click on County and click OK.

Click on “Advanced…” to display the Advanced Address Format Options. Tick the “Postally required counties” and “All counties” options, and then click OK.

Once the layout is configured save all changes by clicking on “Save” in the configuration editor.

2. How to remove county names:

Click on the Configuration icon in the QAS Rapid program group to run the Configuration Editor. This can be found in Start > (All) Programs > QAS Rapid.

Click on “Address Format” to check the current layout. Ensure that the county name is removed from the current layout by highlighting the county address line and pressing the delete button:

Click on “Advanced…” to display the Advanced Address Format Options, then un-tick the “Postally required counties” and “All counties” options and then click OK.

6. Once the layout is configured save all changes by clicking on “Save” in the configuration editor.
