What is the best way to upgrade QAS products?

The recommended way of upgrading any QAS product is by installing the new product alongside the existing version so that both new and old versions can be used concurrently.

This allows you to familarise yourself with the new version and verify that it operates as per your requirements before removing your old version.  Thereby, minimising any product downtime.

The only drawback is that by using this method your configuration settings (layouts etc) are not carried across to the new version. If you are using Windows QAS World v3.x Plug & Go/ Standalone/ Server/ for the Web it is possible to retain your configuration settings if you install over the top of your existing product(s).  Only API customers do not benefit from this feature. You should only use this functionality if you are sure that there will be no issues once you've upgraded.

Can I retain my configuration settings?

Yes you can. Providing you're using one of the following products: QAS World v3.x Plug & Go/Standalone/Server/Pro Web product. To do this you install your new product over the top of your existing product installation. Your current configuration settings will be transferred over to v4 during the new product installation. API customers do not benefit from this feature.

How do I find out what product/release version I'm using?

If you are using any of the following implementations on any Windows platform this is straight forward:

• Pro Plug & Go
• Pro UI (High Level) API
• Pro Configuration Editor
• Pro Server/Client
• Batch Standalone

To find out what version use the following hotkey combination displayed below with your QAS product maximised and in focus (i.e. the main application being used on you desktop).

Within the Product Information window you will be able to locate your product/release version.

In fact any product where you can reach the QAS User Inteface (UI) you can easily ascertain your product version.

What is the best way to upgrade Pro World v3.x to v4?

Upgrading to Pro v4 Plug & Go from Pro W v3.x Plug & Go is a relatively easy process. You can choose to either install over the top of their existing installation or install alongside the current installation.

If you install alongside your existing installation, then you will need to re-do your configurations with the new installation.(Recommended)

If you install over the top of your existing installation, then your configurations (layouts etc.) will be transferred over to v4.

What is the best way to upgrade Pro UK v3.x to v4?

Pro v4 is completely different to Pro UK, hence you must install Pro v4 alongside your current installation of Pro UK.

You will need to re-do all of your configurations (layouts etc.).

What is the best way to upgrade Pro WV API v3.x to v4?

There have been no changes to High Level (UI) Integrations. Thus with High Level WV installations you simply should install Pro v4 alongside Pro WV and test this product with your existing implementation.

There have been substantial changes to Low Level (Primary) Integrations (caused by the introduction of the Universal API). However,you can continue to use your existing integration. If you continue to use your existing integration you should be aware that you will not see the full range of improvements contained within v4.

There are fundamental and substantial differences between Pro UK and v4 APIs. As such, you will need a whole, new integration to effect a change to v4.

There are fundamental and substantial differences between Pro UK and v4 APIs. As such, you will need a whole, new integration to effect a change to v4.
