Pro FAQs

What is Pro?

QuickAddress Pro is an address management utility which returns a full and valid address from partial address information that you enter. QuickAddress Pro is commonly referred to as a address capture utility.

Pro uses a separate address database for each country, and you can switch between these databases to retrieve address information from several different countries. You can use two different search techniques to find the address that you want. They are called Typedown and Single Line.

Once you have retrieved an address with Pro, you can write it to a file, or transfer it into a word processor, database, spreadsheet or any other application that is already running on your PC.

What are the changes in the v4 Pro API, web and client/server products?

The v6 Pro API can be seen as three different components:

  • The User Interface (High Level) API
  • The Compatibility API
  • The Universal API

The v6 User Interface (UI) API is very similar to the QuickAddress World v3 User Interface API. The function calls (e.g. QAProWV_UIStartup) have not changed and therefore no code needs to be changed.

However, the user interface (UI) has changed slightly (and behaves like v6 Plug & Go). In order to recognise new errors related to licensing existing integrations will need to extended.

The v6 Compatibility API is similar to that seen previously in QuickAddress World API upgrades. It allows the use of code from existing QuickAddress World v3 Low Level integrations with the v6 product library. As the Compatibility API is made using the v6 architecture many of the new features (e.g. improved picklist handling) will be seen without coding alterations.

Why choose a client/server implementation?

For distributed installations QuickAddress Client/Server product is recommend, because:

  • Network traffic is reduced
  • It enables live monitoring and control of the server processes via an administration console. The Console acts as a “visible face” of the server, enabling an at-a-glance health check. This can be run on any Windows client machine, including the server.
  • Configuration changes can be performed from a remote client. All address-formatting settings are held server-side, within an INI file. Changes are performed using a remote configuration editor, which runs as a client connected to the server.
  • It is possible to run multiple servers. This is an important feature which allows QuickAddress functionality to be maintained even if one of the servers fail.
  • It enables the clients and the server(s) to run under different operating systems, i.e. Windows/UNIX clients, with Windows / UNIX / AS/400 Servers.
  • Data updates can be performed with no interruption to the service.
  • The number of connected clients can be monitored via the administration console. This enables administrators to adhere to licensing more easily, by setting a maximum number of users who can connect to the server.

Why choose Pro Web?

For server side integrations Pro Web is recommend because:

  • The product comes with Java and COM interfaces as well as the traditional C interface, therefore it can be integrated into different environments with ease.
  • The statelessness of the product makes it suitable for server side integrations.
  • The product can be installed as either standalone API or Client/Server. Offering the option to separate the QAS process from the main application server.
