DataPlus FAQs

What is DataPlus?

QuickAddress DataPlus is a product that enables you to retrieve specific data for an address.

QuickAddress DataPlus can provide a wide range of information relating to an address, as a supplement to QuickAddress products. This additional information can be appended automatically to address records at the point of capture without any extra keystrokes, or added during a batch cleaning process.

DataPlus information is contained in data sets. Each piece of information relates to a locality/town, postal code, or, when the Data requires higher resolution, to the Delivery point (letter box). DataPlus handles information in terms of a code and its related description (if there is one). For example, a data set containing co-ordinates would contain only codes. However, the UK Parliamentary Constituencies DataPlus set contains both; 3-digit codes (assigned by the Government as a kind of shorthand for each constituency), and a familiar name by which people refer to them.

There are two types of QuickAddress DataPlus sets distinguished by their file extensions, “.dat”, and “.dap”*. The latter file extension is commonly used for DataPlus sets that are compatible with international data enabled QuickAddress products. Whilst the “.dat” DataPlus sets are compatible with UK Data Only QuickAddress products.

* DAP DataPlus Sets
“.dap” DataPlus sets are shipped as a single file. Their names are composed of two parts; the first part identifies the country with which that DataPlus set is to be used (such as USA). The second part identifies the DataPlus set, e.g. TGR for Tiger data. Using the USA Tiger Zip DataPlus set as an example the complete name of the file would be USATGR.dap.

How do I find out more information about postal data sets and DataPlus sets?

You should look at the Country Information Guide (CIG) for the postal data set that you are interested in. This is supplied with each QuickAddress data set. CIGs provide detailed information, search tips, and a and whole host of additional information for each country data set. The Appendix of all CIGs contain detailed information regarding available QuickAddress DataPlus sets.

Under Windows, you have the option to install the Country Information Guide during data installation. The guide is installed to C:\Program Files\QAS\Country Information Guides by default. If you choose not to install the guide, it can be accessed from the Docs folder on the Data CD.
