Charity care - QAS online glossary
Definition:
Charity care is designed to help people who require medical services but do
not have the means to pay for them.
Hospitals in the United States are required to dispense medical care, regardless of the ability of the patient to pay for that care.
Hospitals and healthcare organizations can claim charity care reimbursements
from local government if there is sufficient evidence that the patient in
question resides in the county or region in question.
This is where address verification software can help. By verifying patient names and addresses on admission, hospitals can
reclaim more charity care from local government, reducing overall bad debt
levels.
